This was never an announcement on the main page, but is added here in the archives as a record. Today held the most hits to the website in one day than any other, at a grand number of 1,372 hits. Hopefully, we'll beat that when STF goes gold. =o)

Well, the Beta has certainly gone off with a bang! Unfortunately, testing has uncovered a huge nest of crashes that shouldn't happen. So you understand just why it's crashing, let me give you the skinny on the situation:

 1) The AI does crash the game. It is because it tries to make either 24 or 32 Snipers, which with 75 supply, isn't possible. I believe this to be the cause, which would explain why it only crashes after a certain period of time, and if you kill off its men, it will take longer for it to crash (if it can rebuild). This will be resolved.

 2) MemGraft, the new technology that functions like StarGraft, but allows compatibility with SC 1.09b and WinXP, has proven to be unstable. It can crash the game even without an AI in the game. A Sentrygun being attacked while it's in its initial attack animation will cause the game to crash for the owner of the Sentrygun, for instance. This is caused by MemGraft. DarkWizzard, the creator of MemGraft, says he had made a newer MemGraft that had fixed a lot of crashes other people were having with it, but had not had the time to upload it. Since he's reinstalling his OS and the new version of MemGraft is buried in one of his backup discs, he cannot give it to me yet. When I receive it, though, I will release STF 2.0.3b.

Alrighty, the fixed AI is ready. Now all I need is the newest version of MemGraft. Should have a new version ready in a day or two, depedning on when I receive MG from DarkWizzard. Stay tuned for any new developements.

Starcraft Team Fortress v.2.0.3b is now up for download! However, since I do not currently have my Brood War disc, due to a LAN party mishap, I have been unable to test it out myself, and thus there is no guarantee many of the problems everyone has been experiencing with 2.0.2b have been solved. This version uses a new, and hopefully crash-free AI, utilizes the latest MemGraft release, and has a few balance adjustments made. Check out the Read Me included to find out just what has been changed. Since this is a full mod, you don't need 2.0.2b in order to use 2.0.3b. Anywho, as always, report any problems on the forum. Head over to the Download page to get 2.0.3b.

Well, in one word, crap. Late night testers have reported that none of the problems have been resolved in this new version, not the AI crashing nor the other random crashes. It would seem, at the very least, what we thought were the causes, weren't. This leaves two last options. 1) Test a seperate MPQ with a MemGraft EXE, like Dominion War. If this proves to work, it will mean there's a problem in MemGraft's MPQDraft plugin. If this is not the case, then the second, and by far the worst option, will have to be attempted: 2) Redoing everything with 1.09b files. I either used 1.07 and/or 1.08 files for STF, and DarkWizzard postulates that that may be the cause. Redoing everything would take a considerable amount of work, and I wouldn't want to attempt it until I knew for certain there was no other alternative. I shall release the seperate MPQ/EXE soon.

 8/9/2002 - Hercanic
Crap, crap, crap, crap! Well, the MPQ/EXE has been tested by some people, and, well, no luck. On a positive note, at least, DarkWizzard took a look at the AI script and believes he has fixed it. It will be heavily tested first, though, before we make any claims. =o) DarkWizzard will also be constructing a 1.07 version of MemGraft, in order to do one final test. If it works, it'll mean the problem is not with MemGraft. And that will mean I will have to redo everything with 1.09b files. All the DAT files, BIN files, everything. If the test doesn't work, however, it will mean that there is in fact a problem with MemGraft. People, keep your fingers crossed that the Magical Mod Fairy will come and make all these troubles go away...

Alrighty, progress update. First off, I finally got my Brood War disc back. Lucky thing too, because my friend was about to leave on a camping trip for over a week. As for the random crashes, DarkWizzard says he'll have the last test ready by Monday, if all goes well. Finally, the AI. DarkWizzard's fix turned out to be a bust. However, hope is not lost. We now have a new hypothesis on the problem. It would seem that building Supply Depots when more supply is needed is something hard-coded. If it cannot make them, or they don't function as it expects, it crashes the game. The solution would be a simple one: allowing the computer to build regular Supply Depots, but not giving the button to the Player. So, while only the AI could make them, it would prevent the AI-related game crashes. It's the solution Jstek worked out for Dominion War. Let's hope it works out for us. Cross your fingers!

Well, some rather zealous STF players are getting together a tournament, the first one for STF. For this special occasion, I will be releasing 2.0.6b, which fixes a number of very nasty balance issues. If you're interested in this tournament idea, head on over here and show your support. As for DarkWizzard's test, he's had company over, and thus hasn't had much time to work on creating it. In the time being, I'll be fixing up a lot of the sounds in STF, as a number of people have complained that certain units become...annoying. =o)

 8/16/2002 - Hercanic
STF 2.0.6b is here. Now, take note that I have removed the ability to build Sentryguns in order to curb the crashing problem with them, until a more permanent solution is made. Don't fret, though, sentryguns will still be a part of STF. This version is being specially released solely for the purpose of the new STF tournament Phreak is organizing. You can get it here.

There was a slight error in one of the maps on the Downloads page. One of the starting locations was missing fuel! Kind of a necessity in STF. =o) So the map in question, Hotbed, has been updated. If you've downloaded it once before, it'd be best to get it again.

 8/18/2002 - Hercanic
Since Open Beta has begun, the FAQ needed a bit of an update, which it has justly received. Removed many of the items dealing with BW1.07 and Beta Testing, but other then that, nothing much has been added. A good read only if you haven't read it before (although there is a decent update on the potential Mac version of STF). The About section will need to be fixed up soon as well, so stay tuned.

Whelp, I'm still waiting on DarkWizzard for the final test. Yesterday, he told me that all he had left were the AI/Orders, which should take about 15 minutes to complete, but he's been very busy lately, which is why it has taken so long. Still have to hand it to DarkWizzard, considering everything he's done thus far for the SC modding community. Now, aside from a progress update, here's a little something to wet your appetite, an updated picture of the Floating Fortress. (Keep in mind this is not the final product)

 8/23/2002 - Hercanic
My policy is to update a website in a timely manner, even if the update is inconsequencial. It lets people know you're still alive, still working, and that they should still keep coming back. =o) You can always be sure that, unless I've been mowed down by a car going 90mph, I'm sure to update at least once a week, if not every day I can. So, to make this news post a little more worthwhile, here's an old picture of the Hybrid Grub. Even though the Hybrids were cancelled, we did produce a couple models beforehand. This is the most complete one we have. Enjoy!

Finally, I have gotten around to fixing up the About page. It was just one huge monster aimed at satisfying people's curiosity during Closed Beta. Now that Open Beta is here, all those specifics about each unit are no longer necessary. The page has been immensely trimmed down and condensed into the basic and most important points of STF. Give it a read if you're curious. Post any feedback on the forum.

 8/25/2002 - Hercanic
Unbelievable, after just 6 months in existence, this site has made 50,000 hits! Thank you to everyone who takes time out of their day to check up on what little ol' us are up to. Ah, I just got some more great news. DarkWizzard has finally finished the last test! Now we can conclude once and for all where the crashing problems lie, and can take measures to fix them. Cross your fingers! It's time to test...

 8/26/2002 - Hercanic
Whew, the Download section is looking mighty full right now, due to the induction of 14 new maps created by Dragon, a frequent visitor on the forum. Check them out and fill up your STF map collection.

 8/28/2002 - Hercanic
The final tests have been made, and the results are, well, mixed. Testing MemGraft on 1.09 and 1.07 shows that it crashes when the Sentrygun is attacked. Testing StarGraft on 1.07 shows that the same crash happens. Testing STF 2.0.1 on 1.09 shows no crashing whatsoever. Comparing the Iscript files of 2.0.1 to 2.0.2 reveals they're an identical match. So, all this can lead to only one conclusion, that it is the result of some kind of corruption in the data files. I will make one last test to see if the problem exists in 2.1.2, but, if it's a corruption, chances are it does not exist in 2.1.2, as 2.1.2 was made before 2.0.6b. Keep your fingers crossed, because if 2.1.2 does not have the same problems, STF will not be delayed at all.

 8/29/2002 - Hercanic
The last test was an absolute success! The Sentrygun crash does not exist in 2.1.2! So, I've set back to work on it. ETA in one week, if all goes well.
